Readathon is coming up next weekend! I haven’t participated in a while, and I had a book that I wanted to read on my Kindle. The other one I wanted to read was Edward Snowden’s Permanent Record, which came out last month. Thankfully I was able to get it, even though it’s a bit more expensive. I’m not sure if I have enough content to last the whole 24 hours, but I’ll be taking on Readathon next weekend!
Readathon is good for getting to books that you want to read, but never end up getting to. I have lots of those. I usually try to post here every 3-4 hours during the event, it doesn’t always work though. That’s usually because I’m trying to catch up with all the things going on on Twitter, etc. In case you’re like, what is this Readathon thing? It can all be found right here.

Cars are annoying sometimes.

Especially when they break down and ruin your plans lol. Laurie texted me yesterday, and told me her car was overheating again. I say again, because it was doing this last week. Apparently this time, it was doing it while she was driving to her other client’s house. She had to call for a toawtruck.
This meant she got stuck at her client’s house while waiting for a rental car, which the dealership didn’t have available until around 4:30. Of course, that was after the time she was supposed to be here. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to come yesterday. Hopefully she’ll come tomorrow.
All this made me think her car had to be at least 10-15 years old. Nope, it’s a 2014. We rely on cars so much, but sometimes they’re really annoying!

Pumpkin seeds.

Yesterday we made the pumpkin seeds I extracted last week. Before they went in the oven, I had to take the time to rinse them. I wanted to make sure that any last bits of Pumpkin fibers were separated from the seeds. Doing this took a while because I wasn’t using a strainer. I ended up just taking them out of the water at one point, and putting them into another bowl.
the recipe we used was a modified one. We did use the butter, but instead of regular salt, they were seasoned with seasoning salt and garlic powder. Some recipes call for different sauces, and olive oil. We didn’t use any of those, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t have any. They had to bake for 50 minutes, so almost an hour. Which seemed like a long time. The last time I remember making them it seemed like only 15-20 minutes.

I had lunch delivered!

Apparently, we also have Doordash in this area. I didn’t realize this until yesterday either. I just had to test it! I decided to have taco bell delivered, since I hadn’t had it for quite a while.
Ordering it was kind of interesting, because I’ve never used the site before. I had to figure out where everything was. Once I did that and manage to add items to my cart, I was able to order.
they said it was going to be arriving at 11:50. However, it came 9 minutes early. I took advantage of free delivery over $10 and got extra.

It turns out we do have Uber here.

I had no idea. Apparently it started in March of this year. For some reason, everyone neglected to tell me. I texted my sister to ask if she knew, and she said she did.
I’m pretty sure we probably have Lyft here as well. When Uber started here last March, Lyft was just going through the process. Upon further inspection, it looks like we have Doordash here as well. Yay maybe I’ll get something delivered tomorrow.

Send the official church Uber!

This morning I texted the guy who runs the bus to tell him I’d need a ride to church. I told him if I was the only one, he could send the official church Uber. He said, “thanks but I’ll be picking you up in my car.”
OK OK, by this time I was wondering if he knew what Uber was. I thought since those things are rare occurrences here, he may not have. When I explained that by “the official church Uber” I meant his car, it took him a while, but he sort of got it.
Of course this caused a discussion on whether we actually did have Uber here or not. He thought we did, and I thought we didn’t. Upon doing the research later, I was wrong this time.

6 months ago today.

6 Months ago today, my worst fears came true. Julian Assange was arrested. Well it was more like an extraction. For some reason, Ecuador invited the UK police into their embassy to carry him out.
Back in 2012 this was an issue. The embassy is sovereign territory. No one is supposed to go in there without permission of the country it belongs to. Ecuador sure had a problem with the UK police coming into it’s embassy back then. However, they had absolutely no problem with it 6 months ago.
I guess we really learned that elections do have consequences this time. Ecuador elected a new President in 2017. Had we elected someone more libertarian in 2016, I have a feeling we wouldn’t be in this situation.

Extracting the pumpkin.

Well mostly, I didn’t get all the stubborn fibers out. Mainly just the seeds. I guess I remembered it being a lot more slimey and less stringy than it actually was. I actually didn’t have too hard of a time separating the seeds from the fiber. I just couldn’t get all the stringy fiber out.
That’s OK, we aren’t going to use the pumpkin for anything important. I told Laurie if she wants to take it home and let her daughter decorate it, she can. We’re going to be roasting the seeds though, so that’s the important part. I haven’t had pumpkin seeds in a long time and they sounded good. I like stuff on mine besides salt, so I thought I’d get my own pumpkin.

I got a pumpkin yesterday.

Me and Laurie went to WalMart yesterday. Of course we didn’t just go there to get a pumpkin. I went there to get other things too, obviously.
I wanted to get one so we could roast the seeds though. It’s been a long time since I’ve had pumpkin seeds! When I was a kid, my dad would have me extract all the pumpkin guts. I think this is how I learned not to be squeamish. This was even before I wanted to be a forensicist. I haven’t done the extraction in a long time, but I have a feeling it won’t take too long. Although I’m going to be separating the seeds.

Favorite things about Fall.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. It definitely isn’t Summer, i have trouble handling the heat. It’s not as cold as Winter either. It’s just in between. Here are some of my favorite things about it.

  1. Cool fall mornings. I enjoy getting up early when it’s still cool outside. I live in an apartment that has decent insolation, but not the best. I can feel the air, so I get to enjoy it. I’m not one to go outside at 4 in the morning.
  2. Hot tea or coffee.
  3. New TV seasons.
  4. Lots of homemade soup!
  5. Fall baking.
  6. Thanksgiving.
